HAGERSTOWN, MD (WAMS) — The Maryland State police report that one is dead after a crash at the intersection of Leitersburg Pike and Ringgold Pike.

Police say that the accident occurred around 6:18 PM. Their investigation shows that a Nissan Pathfinder was traveling southbound along Leitersburg pike where it went to turn left on Ringgold Pike. The second vehicle was traveling north.

According to the investigation, the first vehicle entered the second vehicles path. That is when the accident occured.

The driver of the second vehicle, Robert Mellott of Waynesboro was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the Pathfinder, Alvin Herril of Smithburg was transported to Meritus with serious injuries.

Another secondary accident also took place around the same time nearby to the primary accident scene. This accident involved fire police personnel.

According to a Washington County 911 Supervisor, a fire police vehicle was blocking traffic at Leitersburg Pike and Leiter St. when it was then struck by another vehicle. Both of the drivers were transported to Meritus.
