CHAMBERSBURG, Pa – Jerry Townsend of Chambersburg is being charged after a vehicle exploded on Queen St.

On 1/14/21 at 10:47 PM, Police responded to a vehicle fire. When officers arrived on scene, they found that an oxygen tank inside of the building had exploded. Nobody was injured by the explosion but, some nearby buildings windows had shattered.

After an investigation, police found that the fire had been set by Jerry Townsend. He was later taken into custody on 1/15/21 at 5:30 AM.

He is being charged with the following:

  • Arson
  • Reckless Endangerment
  • Causing or Risking a Catastrophe
  • Terroristic Threats

“The Chambersburg Police Department wants to assure the community that this was an isolated incident stemming from a domestic issue between Townsend and a female.” Police said.

The vehicle was a 1991 Ford Ranger Pickup Truck. Apparently, the vehicle had not been owned by the female that was involved in the domestic issue but the owner was linked to it.
